Peter Lobo

Started his career with The Taj Group of Hotels where he worked for 08 years and Sultanate of Oman for 03 years running his own oriental restaurant, therefore at Rajasthan developing an Heritage property till he decided to settle down in Kalimpong and opened his own company Adventure Gurudongma concentrating on birding and wildlife.

An expert birding tour leader and a wildlife photographer. He personally operates all premium birding tours. For the last 15 years, operating, he has been leading high altitude treks, wildlife safaris, tribal tours and a lot of other “off the beaten track” adventures to all parts of India. During treks through various habitats he developed an interest in birding, which became a passion. The ability to spot and identify birds, expert knowledge about “hot spots”, and habitat, and rapport with local people and guides are his greatest assets. He has explored and located many new “hot spots” and trained local guides in the Kalimpong-Darjeeling, Sikkim, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, and Bhutan.

He is a member of the Oriental bird club, Bombay National History Society, The Royal society for protection of Nature, Bhutan, The Indian bird conservation network, “Aaranyak” – the society for Biodiversity conservation in North East India, the Birdwatchers society of Andhra Pradesh and also a member of Indian Tourism Congress.
In the last 15years, he has lead tours for International birding groups to the remotest parts of India and Bhutan. Trips to the uninhabited Arunachal Pradesh, his explorations and guiding trips have taken him to Assam, Ladakh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Sikkim and North Bengal

He also has the credit in getting the status of Lava, Neora National Park and Mahananda Wildlife sanctuary in North Bengal as an Important Bird Area of India by Birdlife International and by the Government of India. He also has many papers and photographs on wildlife published around the world in many books and magazines. Besides in the past years he has done many workshops around Northeast India on wildlife, he has also done a lot of bird surveys for the National Parks and Sanctuaries around Northeast India and also rediscovered many birds back to North East India.

In November and December 2008 he had the pleasure to lead the Biggest ever Twitch In the world which is an event that broke the world record for the number of bird species by Alan and Ruth as he was specifically being appointed to do lead the Indian Chapter. http://www.thebiggesttwitch.com/One of the recent discoveries of a new family and bird species to Bhutan known as the Hodgsons Frogmouth.

Academically he has done his Masters in Ecology and Environment, M.Phil. in Ecotourism and at the moment he is in his final stages of his Phd on Ecotourism on NE India.

Sudesh Pradhan, has been an assistant with Peter Lobo since 2002 and he joined the Adventure Gurudongma team in 2006, he is an expert birding guide and has led and co-led many tours with well know birdwacthers from around the world, he also leads cultural tours and trekswhen he is not leadings birding tours.
In his pastime he is busy visting areas like Lava and Neora Valley birding on his own , his is also an favourite to co lead trips with many birding companies from around the globe.

Rofikul Islam lives in Kaziranga adjoining the park, joined Adventure Gurudongma in 2008 , a very dedicated birder just in his early twenties ,has lead many birdwatching groups,many birders find it hard to keep up with him when he is out birding he is a die hard leader, during his past time he is busy birding or monitoring birds like Blue-naped Pitta etc. or a helping hand in conservation workshops again favourite of many birding groups.

Chewang Rinchen Bonpu, is a dedicated birder from West Sikkim, has been birding with Peter Lobo since 2007, birding been his passion and he started leading birding tours for Adventure Gurudongma to Northeast India and Bhutan, his other great passion slowly turned out to be wildlife photography and so far he has under his belt some rare birds and mammals photos which are published in some international magazines, he is also the Vice President of The Sikkim Orthinological Society .

Lakpa Tenzing Sherpa, is from Yuksom, West Sikkim adjoining Kanchendzonga National Park, has been birding with Peter Lobo since 2010 and leading birdwatching tours for Adventure Gurudongma ,he is a great mountain climber and lead many high altitude treks, having done his Advance Mountaineering Course and has been to many high passes upto 6000+ meters ,a very dedicated birder who knows his birds well in Northeast India, he is also an excutive member of The Sikkim Orthinological Society .
